Class of 2012 YA Superlatives: Popularity Contest

2012 YA Superlatives

Welcome back to the YA Superlatives 2012 blogfest! Today we're talking about some of the most memorable characters in YA books this year. Here are my picks:

Class Clown
Jason from Meant to Be

Jason was always making everyone laugh in this book with his crazy antics!

Most Likely To Become A Rock Star
Sam from Incarnate

Sam is always reincarnated with amazing musical abilities. Maybe in his next life he'd be a rock star?

Most Likely To Start A Riot
Pia in Origin

Pia's very existence is enough to cause a riot, especially because of the choices she makes.

Biggest Flirt
Justina from Ditched

Justina mentions that in the past she kissed a lot of boys, so I bet her flirting skills are awesome.

Fashion King and/or Queen
The ladies in The Friday Society

Each of the girls in this book go through many great fashion changes, and even create their own superhero costumes!

Girl You'd Most Want For Your BFF
Queen and Maddie from Code Name Verity

I don't think you could ever find a more loyal friend than either of these two!

Boy You Wish You'd Dated in High School

This is probably no surprise if you've met my husband - I'm a sucker for smart, cute British guys!

Most Likely to Become President
Prince Kai from Cinder

This is sort of cheating because he's a prince, but I think he has the skills and charisma to be President too.

Quirkiest Character
Evie from Endlessly

Between her pink Taser, her love of a cheesy teen TV show, and her relationship with a mostly invisible guy, Evie is pretty darn quirky.

Villain You Love to Hate

This is one of the few YA books that has the villain's POV included too - and he's super creepy!

Favorite Parental Figure
Most of the parents in Something Like Normal

I picked this one as my favorite family drama, so it makes sense to add it here too. I loved Travis's mom, Harper's dad, and his best friend's mom(s). So nice to see three different supportive families in one book!

Coolest Nerd
Hazel & Augustus in The Fault In Our Stars

They're both nerds in different ways, but still the coolest nerds I can think of. Love them!

  2. Hazel and Augustus are HARD-CORE nerds--intercontinental travel wins a lot of nerd cred, for sure. Love that pick!

  4. We both picked Oliver and Sam in the same categories, but I'm not sure how I missed Jason for Class Clown. And I just finished reading that book too! :)

  6. Oooh, great choice for quirkiest character. I didn't even think of Evie, but you're so right! Also, YES to Pia for starting a riot! :)

  7. Great picks- I have to agree on coolest nerds and quirkiest. I'm reading Code Name Verity right now and have to say their friendship is A-mazing. I haven't read Origin or Meant to Be-adding them to my TBR list.

  8. So, I've just added BREAK MY HEART to my TBR - just the fact that a villain has a POV - love that. :)

    Love the list!

  9. I love Oliver! He was runner up for Boy I Most Wish I'd Dated in High School... He was definitely my choice for biggest flirt. :)
