Comic Con 2012

This was my 5th year attending Comic Con, and this year was probably my favorite so far (despite getting sick on the last day, and figting off this nasty cold for all of last week). Here are my top 5 things from Comic Con 2012:

1. KT Lit Family! At Comic Con I met my agent Kate Testerman for the first time, as well as her husband Doyce and their super cute son. I also had dinner with Kate, Doyce, and three of her clients, Stephanie Perkins, Amy Spalding, and Tom Sniegoski, plus our spouses/friends. It was so nice to spend time with my KT Lit family, who all made me feel right at home as one of Kate's newer clients. Kate has her own post about Comic Con here.

2. Firefly & Joss Whedon! One of the biggest events at this year's Comic Con was the Firefly 10th Anniversary panel. We got in line at 3am for the panel, which is definitely the earliest I've ever lined up before (last year we did 4am for the final Chuck panel), and the line was already huge! But the most amazing thing was that Joss Whedon himself came to the line and signed autographs, took photos, and generally thanked the fans for being so supportive. He is awesome!

3. Chuck! Zachary Levi (of Chuck and Tangled) set up the Nerd HQ, a mini Comic Con a few blocks away from the convention center with panels and signings. We were lucky enough to get tickets for the Chuck panel and signing, which was great! I loved seeing many of my favorite cast members talk about the end of the show, their fondest memories, etc. (Oh, and Zachary Levi thinks Sarah remembered everything with that kiss!)

4. Cosplay! There was a lot of great cosplay everywhere you looked, and I especially loved the Avatar the Last Airbender and Legend of Korra cosplayers - there were so many! But my favorite this year was this group of 4 Pokemon cosplayers with remote controlled lifesize Pokemon! They stood in one of the courtyards and had a little "battle," to the delight of dozens of people watching. LOVE!

Their Pokeballs were the controllers!

One of them also had a Squirtle in his backpack.

5. Books! Every year more and more book panels are added, and the publishers bring more swag, ARCs, and free books. Books are definitely becoming huge at Comic Con. I love it!

What's Hot in YA panel, with Nathan Bransford, Leigh Bardugo, Myra McEntire, Scott Westerfeld, Melina Marchetta, Lish McBride, Tahereh Mafi, Kami Garcia, James Dashner.

Foes Beyond Fur & Fangs panel, with Gail Carriger, Amelia Atwater-Rhodes, Maggie Stiefvater, Tom Sniegoski, Rachel Caine, Kiersten White, Amber Benson.
